How it works

We all know that music can change your mood, influence on the atmosphere, and take us to places in our memories. Also, we all heard that classical music has great influence on children in their development, on their imagination or even intelligence. Why is that?

We hear sounds from music via frequencies or explained through physics, sound wave is a mechanical wave, the vibration of the wave causes the air to compress, and it consequently produces sound. In short, sound is coming to us in frequencies.

But only a tiny part of that our ears are made to hear. An average human can hear sounds from 16Hz to 20.000Hz. What you maybe did not know is that not only sounds have frequencies, but everything in life has a vibration. Whether it’s a tree, your chair at your desk, or even yourself. Everything around us is vibrating at a quantum level, or everything is creating a sound. As sound affects matter, it affects our body and our brain. If you are in health, that means that your ‘body orchestra’ is playing in tune, in its natural vibration. In the human body, every organ, bone, liquid, the tissue has its resonant frequency. When our body and/or mind is not in balance, it means that its natural resonant frequency has been distributed . And weather the vibration has gone higher or lower ‘out of tune’, we can make it return to its natural resonance, closer to its natural ‘healthy’ frequency and back to homeostasis. How do we do that?

If a particular body part is out of its natural resonance, it can be entrained back to its healthy state when skilfully activated with the right frequency or set of frequencies.

Sound therapists use analog instruments or frequency generators(digital) to generate binaural beats. In essence, these are 2 frequencies of small difference played in each ear (angle of 180’). One is put on the right ear (side) and other on the left (ear) side. Once the listener puts the headphones on, the brain creates a third frequency, called the phantom frequency and this frequency is the binaural beat. In essence the third frequency - binaural beat relates to different brain states and entrains the brain to a wanted state.

The Human Brain; Modus Operand

Based on the picture above, you can see that key part of the magic is happening in the human brain. Electrical activity in the brain is displayed in the form of brainwaves. There are five categories of these brainwaves, ranging from the most activity to the least activity.

Gamma 40Hz+

Gamma waves are discovered most recently, and they represent the highest state of focus possible and are the fastest of the brain wave frequencies. They are associated with peak concentration and the brain’s optimal frequency for cognitive functioning. Nobel prizewinning scientist, Sir Francis Crick believes that the 40Hz frequency may be the key to the act of cognition.

Beta 15Hz-40Hz

Beta waves are generated when the brain is aroused and actively engaged in mental activities. It is the best modality for activities where high levels of concentration and focused attention and are needed. An actively engaged sharp and focused mind works in Beta, it is characteristic for a person involved in an active conversation, giving a speech, teaching.

Alpha 8Hz-14Hz

Where beta represented arousal, alpha represents non-arousal. Alpha brainwaves are slower, and higher in amplitude. When alpha waves are strongly present, logical left-brain activity drops its guard. This allows the more intuitive, emotional, and creative depths of the mind to become increasingly influential. A person who has completed a task and sits down to rest is often in an alpha state. In the alpha, you experience a liberating sense of peace and wellbeing.

Theta 4Hz-8H

When you enter a Theta state of mind, you are entering a mysterious trance-like state where brain activity slows almost to the point of deep sleep, but not quite. It is known that people experience it immediately after waking up or falling asleep. It is the brain's modus operandi when you are in REM sleep cycle or in a state of deep meditation. Brainwave Therapy can speed up this process, making it easier to drop into deep meditative states, even if you've never meditated before.

Delta 0.1Hz-4Hz

They typically go down to 2 or 3 cycles a second and never go down to zero because that would mean that you were brain dead. But, deep, dreamless sleep would take you down to the lowest frequency. When being in Delta state, you are sound asleep. During this phase of the sleep cycle, the brain begins producing very slow, large waves. In delta states of mind, your body rests and goes into a state of its rejuvenation.

When the listener puts the headphones on and plays sonic pill sound therapy the sounds begin to entrain the brain into a certain state after app 5 min of listening. We did testings in ABR neurological clinic for each of our sonic pills sound therapies, here is an example of one:

Relaxation Pill

First EEG shows high beta activity, very high in peak which means the client simpaticus is active, and he is in a mood of stress and tension. The second EEG shows the clients brain activity after listening Sonic Pill Relaxation. The tension is gone and we can see a beautiful alpha brain activity.
